East Tennessee worker training grants awards

Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded

  • $23,487 to Bristol Surgical Associates in Bristol, Tennessee.
  • $42,576 to Domtar Paper Company in Kingsport, Tennessee.
  • $44,148 to Edwards and Associates, Inc in Bristol, Tennessee.
  • $24,628 to AO Smith Corporation in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Incumbent Worker Training grants assist existing employers with training needs associated with skills upgrades for their employees.

It is hard for me to understand why the above companies need employee training money.  Why should the taxpayers foot the bill for profitable companies?  Is this a payback to the companies for favors received by candidates for office?  What do you think?
