Tennessee State laws on red-light cameras evolving
Maryville, Tennessee Daily Times reports the following on non-payment of traffic violations or citations concerning enforcement cameras.
State Rep. Joe McCord’s proposal to extend the payment period for fines from red-light camera citations has passed the Tennessee General Assembly.
House Bill 3069 passed 94-0 in the full Tennessee House of Representatives on Thursday. The companion bill also passed the Senate.
For the most part, the bill codifies current operational practices for red-light cameras and adds an additional notification requirement:
“No additional penalty or other costs shall be assessed for non-payment of a traffic violation or citation that is based solely on evidence obtained from a surveillance camera installed to enforce or monitor traffic violations, unless a second notice is sent by first-class mail to the registered owner of the motor vehicle and such second notice provides for an additional 30 days for payment of such violation or citation.” This would appear to extend the time allowed to pay the fine to 60 days.
