Red Light Revenue Camera Timing
The Kingsport Times-News has stated that they do not want any more Letters to the Editor that has the subject as red light revenue cameras. I wonder how many other subjects has been closed by the Times-News.
Red light revenue cameras are a hot issue with local citizens. While, I am neutral on this subject, I do understand the concerns that others have. Kingsport, needs to make sure that they are doing everything possible to insure that safety is the number one issue by installing the revenue cameras.
Redflex, the revenue camera manufacture states on their web page that by increasing the yellow light timing, will result in a reduction in red light running. Kingsport, needs to insure that they have the proper timing considering the road, speed, etc. Also, Kingsport should make sure that their yellow light time is not to short to avoid being accused of trying to use the revenue camera to increase revenue. See the link “6 cities that were caught shortening yellow light time for profit“. Kingsport should insure that they are meeting the Federal and State guidelines for stoplight timing.
If Kingsport is truly concerned about saving lives by installing the revenue cameras, would they still continue the program if it were not a profit maker?
